Sesame Street Birthday Party – 3 Ways to Use Music For Games and Entertaining

Nothing gets a toddler’s attention faster than music, particularly songs they know and love to dance around to. Plan for different ways you can incorporate music into different activities at your Sesame Street birthday party. This could actually help set the theme for you better than expensive themed party decorations.

Specific songs into games
Sesame Street has so many of its own great songs – the theme song, People In My Neighborhood, Rubber Duckie, Doin’ the Pigeon, C is for Cookie, Put Down the Duckie. (You humming something yet?) In addition, singers have come on the Street over the years to do versions of their songs tailored for the kids. Any one of these could be turned into its own game.

For example, with one of the rubber duck songs, you could have the kids duck down every time they sing the word duckie. Or have them do the pigeon dance. Or make up a dance or motions that you teach them in the course of the song itself.

With the celebrity songs, there are some great options. “A New Way to Walk” by Destiny’s Child becomes a version of Red Light, Green Light, or “Furry Happy Monsters” by REM becomes an emoting/acting game.

Sing-a-long time
There are some songs that just everyone knows, including the grown-ups. C is for Cookie, the Sesame Street theme song, Elmo’s World, the alphabet song. Cue up these guys either from a CD or DVD and have at it for a few minutes. This could even be a game and give some prizes for loudest singer, softest singer, best dance moves, etc.

You could do several sing-along times of a single song, then tie the song into the game you play afterward. Look to “I Love Trash” by Oscar (trash toss) or “Over Under Around and Through” by Grover (follow the leader) or “I’ve Got Two” by Big Bird (matching game) for some ideas. This also allows you to work your child’s favorite character into the party a little more.

Background
Of course, the easiest way is to just set up a CD player with the music going and going just in the background behind all the other activities. This actually works great for the non-organized times – like when guests are arriving or eating. The stopping and starting of the music can serve as the signal to return to the more organized activities.

These are just a few ideas for how to use music in your Sesame Street birthday party. There are lots of other ways to get creative with your theme using music. Pop in a CD and start noodling!

The Xbox 360 With Kinect – A Controller Free Gaming and Entertainment Experience

The highly anticipated gaming console is due to launch in November. Kinect for Xbox 360, or simply Kinect is a “controller-free gaming and entertainment experience.” Developed by Microsoft for the Xbox 360, Kinect is based around a webcam-style add-on peripheral for the Xbox 360 console. It enables users to control and interact with Xbox 360 without the need to touch a controller. Controls to the Xbox 360 will be through natural user interface using gestures, spoken commands, or presented objects and images. Microsoft’s project is aimed at widening the Xbox 360’s audience beyond it’s typical gamer base. Kinect for XBOX 360 will compete with the Wii Remote and PlayStation Move motion control systems for the Wii and PlayStation 3 home consoles, respectively.

Game developers will simultaneously be releasing Kinect ready games with the launch of Xbox 360 this holiday season. Such games include Kinect: Kinectimals, Kinect Joy, Kinect Sports, Ride, Your Shape; Fitness Evolved, Dance Central and Kinect Adventures. These games are sure to turn your living area into an interactive gaming stage. For example, in Kinect Sports, you may hold out your hands as if you were gripping a steering wheel. The Xbox 360 Kinect can recognize your hands and the movement of them. The system will be able to detect the direction your hands are moving and transform that into gameplay.

Not every feature of Kinect will target directly at gaming. Kinect will allow you to control the Xbox 360 system with your voice and hands. Xbox 360 Kinect will be a complete entertainment console from allowing users to listen to music to watching movies. You can be cleaning your house and Kinect will allow you to change the music on your Xbox 360 that’s playing with just a swipe of your hand.

The Xbox 360 Kinect will surely be the next generation of gaming!

Gaming and Entertainment Industry Destroyed by Hurricane Katrina

Due to the catastrophic affects of Hurricane Katrina there will be about 3 million people migrating to other cities? Where will they go? New Orleans had 1.3 million people in the surrounding area. There are few homes left, few jobs until relief efforts and rebuilding gets going. There will be need for engineers, heavy equipment operators, construction people, but their families will have no homes and will have to live elsewhere. One major industry and source of jobs was totally wiped out, along with its tax base; the entertainment and gaming industry. But where will these employees go, many have lost everything and their jobs were totally demolished?

Which cities stand to gain people? Well let us look around. Shreveport and Tunica have casinos and will take some of those who worked in that industry and in the entertainment sectors of the Destroyed Gulfport Area and tourist areas of New Orleans. Some may move as far away as Las Vegas, which need labor for their growing gaming sector. Atlantic City is also growing and needs trained gaming workers.

Tunica can take on about 1,000 or so of the employees, Atlantic City for those with funds to move or those who work for a gaming corporation, which had locations in both Gulfport and Atlantic City may find a nice package for a move. Las Vegas the home of the gaming industry always needs people. The LDS and Mormons who had typically worked in casinos are no longer having the ten kids per family that their parents had are now having fewer kids. Fewer people are moving from Salt Lake due to the booming economy there. The Filipinos who also are know as hard working family folks are welcomed by the gaming industry as a reliable source of labor. Due to the growth in Las Vegas the fastest growing city in the Nation, there are more than enough jobs and not only in the gaming industry. Las Vegas is a racially diverse city, it is an all comers area which welcomes all. Many of the poor will go to Houston and all though it does not have a gaming industry, it does need the labor badly. We can soak up the people who have lost everything for their new start. They may need some help with their credit reports, some cash for the move or pre-paid moving monies, but we can make the transition for those willing to pick up the pieces of their life and make a new start. Think on this.
